New Costuming

FRESH OUTFITS!

    What's up, followers? With a new plot, we had to make all new costumes. However, we already started filming, so luckily, we got the outfits locked in and created in real life. Hence, this blog will summarize and analyze our new costumes and their importance to our characters!

Hailey (Protagonist):

    Hailey is our official new main character and a little girl who will sadly be the subject of a kidnapping. She wears a bright yellow shirt, jean shorts, knee-high socks, white sneakers, a yellow butterfly clip, colorful bracelets, glasses, and she has pigtails. Additionally, she wears a grey backpack with colorful patterns, a cat keychain, and a bunch of dolls inside. We REALLY wanted to make it obvious that she was a child by giving her a childish outfit and props. In fact, we gave her a yellow shirt and butterfly clip because it is largely associated with sunniness and playfulness to emphasize that she loves to play with dolls and go to the playground. In more detail, the yellow shirt that we picked has cute characters on it, which is definitely what a little girl would wear. Plus, it will play a large role in contrasting with the mysterious masked man as he wears dark colors. The pigtails combined with the glasses give her character a more youthful look as it is stereotypical for a child to have these characteristics. Overall, we made sure the costuming was perfect to illustrate that she is a child and to set a happy mood at the beginning.

Masked Man (Antaognist):

    The Masked Man's outfit was kept very simple but definitely illustrated meaning through costuming. For instance, he wears a completely black outfit with a hood and a skeleton mask. Traditionally, black symbolizes evilness and mystery, so when he shows up out of nowhere near Hailey (who is alone and vulnerable) it can be automatically assumed that he is dangerous and this helps evoke a suspenseful mood. The darkness of his outfit combined with the sun going down makes it feel like he is drowning out Hailey's bright yellow outfit, which asserts that he is more powerful and stronger than her. Additionally, he wears a mask to keep his identity a secret and remain anonymous. As a result, it suggests that it will be hard to reveal his identity and capture him, leaving an unsettling feeling amongst the audience. Therefore, his costuming was needed to display that he is the villain and will eventually do something bad to Hailey.

Father (Side Character):

    Although the Father appears for a short period of time, we made sure to give him good costuming! To elaborate, he wears a white polo shirt, sweatpants, sandals, and glasses, which is a very typical, lazy dad outfit. Moreover, white can mean simplicity, but in a way that he is very oblivious and lacks awareness of the safety of his child. Even though the radio is talking about the increasing number of missing children, he still lets Hailey go to the park alone and even drops her off. Thus, we wanted to demonstrate his arrogance and that he is a bad father to Hailey even if he appears for a short period of time.
