Preparing to Film

Preparing to Film

For our filming equipment, we are most likely going to be using the resources around us. For example, I have a Canon camera from my sister, but it might be poor quality since it is from 2017. However, our story is based around 2015-2019, so it would make sense to use this camera for this situation. Also, for the ending camcorder shot, our friend has a camcorder that we can borrow that would definitely have that old, eerie look. Nonetheless, if we cannot use any of these or something goes wrong, we can rent a camera and split the cost among the four of us. I doubt it will be expensive if we split it. Furthermore, using our phones to film would also be a low-budget option, but it might not look as professional or like a real movie. We might borrow from Beacon depending on what they have, but we might just stick to the resources we have to make it easier.

1. Actors
At the beginning of deciding our groups, we already agreed on our actors and editors, so the actors were pretty easy to consider. Thus, the actors of our main characters are Jason, Jaden, and Katelyn, and Afifa and I will be doing anything involving the editing and planning, basically all the behind-the-scenes things. In more detail, Jaden will be the younger brother, who is the more proper one, and Jason will be playing the mentally ill one. For now, this is set in stone, but right now, they are only fifteen and sixteen years old, so it might not fit the more adult image of the two brothers they will be playing. Additionally, the friend during the phone call will be played by Katelyn, who is our mutual friend, since she agreed and thought it would be fun. We could bring in actors, but we would have trouble finding people who are willing to participate. Therefore, this may change later on, but Jason, Jaden, and Katelyn will be the actors.

2. Locations
The locations are going to Miramar Regional Park and my house. We don't need something too special since our plot only involves the forest for our ending shot, where a masked person is recording himself on a camcorder where he has bags of dead bodies. Additionally, we need a house for the outdoor part where the first brother is putting up missing person posters and taking a phone call inside the house. We decided to either do it in the park or in a random forest of trees. Nevertheless, we picked the park because it would be more accessible to everyone, and there are definitely trees surrounding the area. However, this actually might seem kind of suspicious seeing random teenagers in a forest with a mask and axe prop while dragging black trash bags.

3. Specific Dates and Times
All of us are extremely flooded with school right now, so the weekend currently be the best time, especially with semester two and dual enrollment starting right around the corner. According to this, I would say to have the most free time and flexible schedules, we would have to do it on February 3rd and 4th. I think around 2 PM to 8 PM would be best since it is not too early and not too late since it might be too late for teenagers like us who are a bit young to be roaming at a later time. If we need more time, we can extend it to 9 PM or 10 PM as long as we all agree. Overall, we will add more dates on February 17th and 18th if we need more time to film since we cannot do the 10th and 11th due to the Lunar New Year and the festivals, as most of us are Asian.

4. Scripts
Thanks to Jason and Jaden, they made the script during class. In more detail, they wanted to make their own script since they were playing the characters, so it would be easier and more convenient for them to decide their lines and determine which things they could say. The script can change once we start filming, as we might have issues executing the lines properly since none of us are professional actors. It's going to be entertaining once we start filming, for sure.

Script:
Opening Scene:
Brother 2: “Sigh” (puts poster up)
Brother 2: “What was that?” (Something passes by brother 2)

Fight Scene
Brother 2: “You need help.”
Brother 1: “NO I DON’T!”
Brother 2: “YOUR MENTALLY ILL!”- “LOOK AT YOURSELF!”
Brother 1: “YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT!”
Brother 2: “You’re mentally ill please go seek out for help...”
Brother 1: *Pauses with anger (10sec)*
Brother 1: *goes to pack up- attempts to leave*
Brother 2: *feels bad*
Brother 1: “F U!”
Brother 2: “ I didn’t mean all that, don’t leave, you’re all I got.”
Brother 2: “I'm sorry...” *softest tone*
Brother 1: “Stop controlling me.”
*Leaves*

Phone Call Scene
Friend: “How long has he been missing for?”
Brother 2: “Five months.”
Friend: “How are you feeling?”
Brother: “It’s been dark, I'm lost, and I’ve been seeing things."
*Vase Drops*
Friend: “What was that?” (serious tone)
Brother 2: “I don't know, this is what I'm talking about.” *VERY SCARED*
