Group Member Blog Post

My group members for the media studies project are Jaden Dinh, Afifa Risha, and Jason Truong. I was originally planning to do it with Jaden and Jason since they were already my friends, and we decided to take the class together, but then Afifa switched after I convinced her to, so I wanted to do it with her. At first, I only wanted to do it with Afifa because if more people were added, then it would become more complicated to manage the work and get all group members to complete the work. After discussing with Afifa, we decided to add Jason and Jaden. They also wanted to work with us, making an agreement that they would be the actors and we would manage the editing and filming. Jaden and Jason are definitely on the more extroverted side, so they would 100% put their full confidence into the acting for sure, and as a past editor, it would be easy to handle the editing, and Afifa is super reliable and intelligent and gets all her work done in a timely manner. Thus, the group was settled, and we started looking at ideas.

When we got into groups, we instantly began to brainstorm our ideas. We considered a school or waking up opening, but we felt that it would be unoriginal as many other students would have this idea. We definitely wanted to go down the more mystery, horror, or thriller route. Also, we thought of a crime scene concept, but we did not know how we would get the props, such as the fake blood and crime scene tape. Fortunately, we stumbled upon a suitable idea without much thinking, which was a funeral. In more detail, funerals are associated with black outfits, dark lighting and filtering, rain, black umbrellas, and an outdoor ceremony. We could invite all of our friends and use a hose to imitate the rain. Moreover, we could add some sort of movie-like plot twist, like the person we were attending the funeral for never actually died. Since Halloween has just passed, we can easily find a fake grave, and flower bouquets would be the perfect final touch for the scene. In summary, we needed an impactful opening scene, and we were very pleased with this idea, but as time goes on and budgeting issues approach, we might change our idea, but for now, we will be keeping this one.
